Listen for a Whispered Voice Within your Mind

This stunning waveform depicts a unicorn's ethereal intonations fading into oblivion.

This stunning waveform depicts a unicorn's ethereal intonations fading into oblivion.

From Chapter 5 of A Field Guide to Identifying Unicorns by Sound by Craig Conley (thanks, Score Bunny!):

Mental whispers may seem:

  • like an attempt to whistle
  • ever so brief
  • confidential
  • delicate as thistledown
  • familiar
  • like a falling feather
  • encouraging
  • like rain on leaves
  • faint
  • like a soft blowing
  • heavenly
  • like a steaming teapot
  • peaceful
  • like a sleepy sigh
  • lulling
  • gentle
  • soothing
  • like a voice from the grave
  • enchanted
  • husky
  • like a rustling wheatfield
  • hollow
  • like something from ancient times
  • like rough cloth brushing along a dusty surface
  • caressing
  • like bubble bath
  • like the wailing of some lost soul
  • like an ancient, common tongue calling one back to a communion once shared long ago

More Dresses on Etsy

burg

I’m slowly but surely listing more stuff on Etsy. The dress above is from a shopping trip in Tulsa, home of the best thrift stores in the NATION. My mom is being awesome and sewing up a few holes in some of my older dresses- look for those next. I’m still putting banners up too, but it’s funny because I’m suddenly more interested in the PICTURES of the banners than I am in the banners themselves. I have one huge one that Joy tried to help me hang over the hammock to photograph this weekend, but it was way too windy. Next I have some ideas for some very very tiny ones…

Three Pictures of Children in Words

Color photographic print of a group of children at a Halloween party. The group of fifteen children stand in several rows. Many of the group are in costume. At the center of the group is a child dressed as a clown. The costume includes a white shirt with red polka dots and a white cone-shaped hat with red dots. A child at the left of the front row wears a cat mask. Several of the other children wear masks or hats. A portion of a brown table is visible at the lower right. Behind the group at the left are blue curtains. On the wall above the curtains is an orange and black jack-o-lantern. On a biege-colored wall at the right is a large framed picture. 1979.

Vertical rectangular black and white copy photograph: snapshot of two young girls, standing side by side with arm around each other’s shoulders, each wrapped in a towel. They stand on grass at bottom of stairs to a porch. Four adults and one boy stand on the stairs. 1940.

Black and white group photograph of a 50th wedding anniversary. The picture is taken in a park where the group sits or stands on the grass with trees in the background. The group is composed of several babies, as well as many children and adults. There is also a white dog sitting on the left side of the picture. After the first few rows, it appears that several other portraits have been superimposed onto the picture. 1884.

The Youth

Directed by Eric Wareheim! Oh my god this video is so ridiculous I had to watch it three times in a row. It’s like David Lynch did Sparkle Motion. I am so pumped.

MGMT – The Youth

This is a call of arms to live and love and sleep together.
We could flood the streets with love or light or heat whatever.
Lock the parents out, cut a rug, twist and shout,
Wave your hands,
Make it rain,
For stars will rise again.

The youth is starting to change.
Are you starting to change?
Are you?
Together.

In a couple of years
Tides have turned from booze to tears.
And in spite of the weather,
We could learn to make it together.

The youth is starting to change.
Are you starting to change?
Are you?
Together.

The youth.
